Where do I learn?

We use two flat-water locations

We recommend for your first lesson that you learn on closed flat water.

Typically we teach our flat-water lessons on Carlsbad Lagoon, which is located in the North County coastal area of San Diego. Since we are completely mobile we will occasionally teach groups in Mission Bay, or private parties on whatever body of water that allows for Paddleboarding. If someone has previous paddleboard experience and/or prefers an open water lesson they may also be accommodated at one of our many beach locations. Open water Ocean Paddle Surf Lesson locations vary depending on swell direction and tide. We are completely mobile, so if there is a body of water closer to where you are and it allows Paddle Boarding, we can come to you!

FROM NORTH OF CARLSBAD

  • Take I-5 south to Tamarack Ave.
  • Exit freeway and turn left on Tamarack Ave heading east.
  • Follow road up & down hill. Make a right turn at 2nd stop sign onto Park.
  • Follow down the hill until it curves left.
  • Turn Right onto Bayshore Drive and park on the street

FROM SOUTH OF CARLSBAD

  • Take I-5 north to Tamarack Ave.
  • Exit freeway and turn right on Tamarack Ave heading east.
  • Follow road up & down hill. Make a Right turn at 2nd stop sign onto Park.
  • Follow down the hill until it curves left.
  • Turn Right onto Bayshore Drive and park on the street

FROM SOUTH OR EAST SAN DIEGO

  • Take I-8 to the Sports Arena Blvd. exit
  • Make a right onto West Mission Bay Drive and continue on to West Mission Bay Drive ramp.
  • Continue over the bridge and the parking lot will be on the left-hand side (Mariners Way)
  • Continue left into the parking lot following east along side the road until the paved road turns into a dirt lot.
  • You will see our van or trailer and we will be teaching at the cove to your right (west side)

FROM NORTH SAN DIEGO

  • Take I-5 to the Sea World Drive exit
  • Make a right onto Sea World Drive and continue on to West Mission Bay Drive ramp.
  • Continue over the bridge and the parking lot will be on the left-hand side (Mariners Way)
  • Continue left into the parking lot following east along side the road until the paved road turns into a dirt lot.
  • You will see our van or trailer and we will be teaching at the cove to your right (west side)

About Us

Since 2009, 2 Stand Up Guys have been providing the ultimate experience in SUP lessons, rentals, fitness classes, group events, open-ocean SUP instruction and traditional surf lessons.

Our qualified instructors have been specially trained in CPR/AED and schooled in a one-of-a-kind "Academy of SUP Instructors" (ASI) course. This course, taught by professionals of the sport as well as paramedics and lifeguards, trained 2 Stand Up Guys’ employees in the proper life saving skills, and precautionary safety techniques regarding the instruction of Stand Up Paddle Boarding.
